To Mr. Evan Gillick

Dear Mr. Evan Gillick, how are you? I’m just wondering. I hope you’re doing well. But the reason I am writing to you is because of your response to Jerry Woods in the last issue of The Flip Side. I read what you were saying and I must say that it did stir up emotions and thoughts that were buzzing through my mind. So I thought I would take some time here to write to you and do my best. I think I will try to start by answering a very tricky question that even Jerry had some trouble with.
The question was, “Do I believe God waited 13+ billion years to finally tell some people to love their neighbor and kill the gays?” To answer in the best way possible is what I will attempt here. I take this question as implying how God sent his son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus to Earth to teach God’s word. Well, do I believe God waited 13+ billion years? Yes, I do. God has a plan; a master plan if you will, that no one knows nor will understand. I do put my faith into God that he does everything for a reason, so waiting that long seems like something God would do. However I cannot pretend to understand why He does what He does. No mortal human can ever comprehend the awesome power that is God, nor should we try because that in itself leads to confrontation and ignorance. This also will answer your question, “Why would God create whales that have hind leg bones, and some even with feet bones complete with digits?” Why, that’s a very good question Evan, and here’s the best part: I don’t know. No one knows why G
od does these things that seem like mysteries to us. We will never know, Evan, unless we ask God Himself the day we meet Him.
Now with the “love the neighbor and kill the gays” part. Let’s work backwards on this part. Did God ever say, “Kill the Gays”? Well, maybe not like that word for word, but yes He did in the Old Testament. God did command His people to go out and get rid of the evil that was in the land. God wanted to purge the world of evil. And the sexual actions that the gays committed were evil in God’s eyes. The gays are people and He loves them. Does He hate the sexual actions they do with one another? Yes, yes He does. So to clarify, God wanted people whose actions were evil to be put to death. The actions that God saw is what drove Him to tell his people to purge the world of evil.
To the neighbor half, now. Yes we must love our neighbor, it’s what makes human beings loving and caring and a sure quality that every Christian should possess. So basically, love your neighbor; even through the arguing, the hate mail, and the yelling, you must love your neighbor. Forgiving your neighbor is one thing that all human beings should practice. I know that I myself have struggled with this. I am right now as I am writing this to you, Evan. For I have read your response to Jerry and have seen the offense written in your views toward my God. And I forgive you, Evan. For I know that the power and love that God has for you and I will outdo any grudge or hate that lies within you or I.
Now if I may turn your attention back to your response to Jerry. I’ve noticed that there comes the question of sin and its origin. Well the Bible clearly states where the origin of sin started with Adam and Eve eating from The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, which was against God’s will. However you approach the origin of sin in a different way because you choose to follow the theory of evolution. So if you want to intertwine sin with evolution, I honestly don’t know how to answer that myself then. I’m sorry Evan.
Now to the theory of evolution that you stated. Yes evolution is a theory and there is much evidence to support it. I will not play dumb and act ignorant to disprove evolution. But what I feel is an underlying fact is that God created Adam and Eve. He created Adam in his own image and took a rib bone from Adam and made a wife suitable for him in the form of Eve. God created humans; we did not evolve. But if you also look at how the evolutionary theory is stated when it comes to human beings, we did not evolve from monkeys. I really hope everybody knows that. Monkeys and apes have there own genealogy that is different from ours. Yes, you can make the case that we share similar DNA with monkeys or primates, however, humans are their own separate species. We differ from the Neandertals, the cavemen, and any Ice Age upright-walking mammal.
Why go against what God has plainly told you and me in the Bible? The Bible holds many answers to so many of life’s questions. All you have to do is read, and let God guide you through the Bible to find what you’re looking for. I know that I have done that many times. Even as a Christian I know for a fact that I am not perfect, nowhere near perfection. No one is, and you can’t argue against that. I have found myself feeling convicted oh so many times. Conviction meaning that God is speaking to me, telling me what is wrong with my life and how I can fix it through Him. I do my best to listen, for I know that anything I do as a human is futile. I can’t do anything on my own that is too great for any human. I always ask God for the strength, the courage, the wisdom to do what must be done that is out of my comfort zone. As I have been writing this article I am trying to talk to God, and I feel He is speaking to me, through me. I am not the most holy man on Earth, yet I know God loves me unconditionally and he is
willing to forgive me of my sins, just as He is in love with you Evan and willing to forgive you of your sins.
God is awesome in power and no human being is better than Him. I am not better than God. Everything I do falls short of the glory of God (see Romans 3:21-26). I put my faith in Him and I will live for Him, to glorify and praise the Almighty One. I look forward to having everlasting life through my Lord and Savior Christ Jesus (see John 3:36). God is greater than any human, any mortal, any organism. He is stronger, wiser and more powerful than you or I Evan, and I dare you to say the same.
To my brothers and sisters, I write: Let all you who have strong faith in our Lord Jesus, know that you are not alone. We are God’s children and He will never desert us, He will never turn his back on us, and He will never stop loving us. God holds on tightly to you and I, His love is unconditional and His power is immeasurable. I assure you brothers and sisters that when we live for God, He lives in us. He dwells in us and He compels us to do what must be done to assure that God isknown and lived for in this world. Brothers and sisters, do not fall into the trap that this world has to offer. Stand strong and stand united. For we are all God’s children, His soldiers living on this Earth to fight the spiritual war that is all too real and raging within our society. Brothers and sisters, united under Christ, there is no other army more powerful than we.
Evan Gillick, I forgive you for the offense you have committed against me and my fellow Christians. But you must ask God to forgive your sins. So I pray: God, I pray for Evan Gillick. I pray that you watch over him and guide him through his journey in life. Whatever he does with his life I pray that you take care of him, guide him and bless his life Lord. I pray that the wife he takes is loving and caring, I pray that he is plentiful in the career he chooses. Lord, I pray that Evan Gillick live his life to the fullest, and that one day may his path cross with another Christian. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
