Philip of Trier - Part Nine

It was said by some a new dawn was coming and with it a new tomorrow which would drive the night and darkness from the world. However the world was not that simple. The night was not just ignorance and darkness the night had its own song; the night was strong and feminine like the Egyptian goddess Nut who held up the sky with the beautiful vaulted arch of her nubile form. Nut's form was as beautiful as the nave of a cathedral, and Nut had had taken pity on the dark man as her own and made his shadow her substance, but she could not give him what he wanted most, because his name was Alphonse and he could had no soul and could not die, and he would be back in the world again soon enough.

Love Letters to No One

I have to say I do believe it’s getting better. Yes I really do believe that it’s getting better.  Allow me to reiterate.  Things are getting better.  The lines I have in front of me are never the ones which are the right ones to say, so I mouth the right ones the best that I can although I do feel that it doesn’t sound sincere but sincerity is not what matters.  Still, I tell you that it’s getting better, do you hear the way that that sounds?

What an Awesome Dorm Policy!

I can say that I had a great year in the dorms. I’m grateful that I had two caring, helpful, devoted and laidback resident assistants. I like the idea of having dorms on campus as well. It’s a great way to socialize with others and to make new friends. Certainly, it can be beneficial for new college students who are anxious to be away from home for the first time. College dorms aren’t that prevalent in my country, most of the students live in their own apartments. Depending on the size of the city it might be even harder to make new friends. My brother goes to college in Berlin and got to know most of his friends in his English and political science classes.

There Are No Taboos

First of all, I would like to say that this is not an apology for anything in my “Sexual Depravity” article and should not be construed as such. It is not an apology because I firmly believe that I have done nothing wrong in joking about rape. Although I was initially threatened with second degree sexual assault charges, I’ve realized these for the scare tactics they are. I described the act of second degree sexual assault in a joke that I wrote in the article, but never have and never will commit such a crime.

The Flip Side's Current Situation

Last issue The Flip Side printed an article entitled “Sexual Depravity,” by Jake Everett. This article which included a joke depicting second degree sexual assault brought about a response of a magnitude we have not seen in a long time. In addition to a variety of very vocal responses from our readers, The Flip Side was told that Jake could be arrested for sexual assault. Additionally, The Flip Side was told that we could incur legal penalties if changes were not made, that we might at some point lose our funding, and we were also pressured to change our completely open submission policy in favor of something other organizations approved of.
